Entry for June 04, 2007

I hadn’t realized til I checked out the spring newsletter of Poets Against the War that there was a poets’ contingent marching at the United for Peace and Justice demonstration in January. Sponsored by the DC chapter of Poets against the War, the event was organized by Melissa Tuckey, who wasinterviewed by my friend Ethelbert Miller in the January 26, 2007 issue of Foreign Policy in Focus.

Now, in conjuction with Busboys and Poets and Sol & Soul, the group is sponsoring Split This Rock Poetry Festival: Poems of Provocation an dWitness March 20-23, 2008. Jimmy Santiago Baca, Lucille Clifton, Mark Doty, Martin Espada, Carolyn Forche, Sam Hamill, Joy Harjo, Galway Kinnell, Naomi Shihab Nye, Sharon Olds, Alix Olson, Patricia Smith and other poets of conscience will gather for readings, workshops, panels, films, parties, and walking tours.

Here’s a blog account of the launch at AWP by Sarah Browning.
