Code Pink and the September Mobilization

The above picture of the Code Pink group is by Los Angeles photographer Sara Terry and can be found at Taiga Presse Images.  You may remember reading about their logistical support of Cindy Sheehan at Camp Casey in Crawford, Texas.  They were out in force in Washington along with every group and individual imaginable.

Including me.  Today I got up at 3:45 a.m. (a most untypical hour, unless still awake from the night before) to travel to Washington, DC.  There were either 99,999 or 299,999 other marchers, depending on whether you believe the mainstream media or the organizers at A.N.S.W.E.R and United for Peace & Justice.  I tend to believe the organizers were closer in their count.  It’s more than a little dispiriting to get home and read/view coverage that in no way resembles what you have actually seen, but it’s been going on for years.

I drove up with a van of six others from Roanoke County, Check and Konnarock, VA  organized by Plowshare Peace & Justice Center.  Plowshare’s director, Gary Sandman and others went up in a second vehicle.  There were organized delegations from Blacksburg, Charlottesville and Richmond, among others, all marching with the Virginia Anti-war Network (VAWN).
